Dell's Netbook Official - $349

Dell has finally has 'em on their site. They start at $349 (Ubuntu OS, 512 MB Ram, 4GB SSD). A fully decked out model (WinXP, 1GB Ram, 16GB SSD, 1.3MP webcam, BT) will set you back $489.

What happened to the red model that was in previous pics? Right now there are only options for black and white. Although, the black model does look pretty pimp.

Overall - I'm pretty disappointed in the price, I was hoping that the rumor of $299 was going to pan out. For $329 you can get an awesome Acer netbook from Newegg with better specs (Crappier Linux OS than the Dell - but linux is free so go DL Ubuntu and it matches up, 512MB Ram, 8GB SSD, 0.3MP webcam).

Acer makes fantastic products too, so Dell could learn a bit from them and drop the price or at least offer up a bigger SSD for that price.

EDIT: If you DO plan on buying one with maxed specs, go the XP route as a decked out XP bundle ends up being cheaper for the EXACT same unit with Ubuntu..... whaaaaat?? Dell trying to pull a fast one, I guess.

The good news is - the Dell2Direct blog states that there is an opportunity to get the Mini 9 for only $99........with the purchase of another "select notebook"

If you can wait until 6 a.m. Central tomorrow, Sept. 5, you'll be able to get a Mini for only $99 with the purchase of a Studio 15, XPS M1530 or XPS M1330 laptop through 6 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9(U.S.only).

That's actually a pretty good deal if you're already in the market for a laptop - IF you can use a 30% coupon code - LOOK HERE
