That futuristic street light might just be the way of the future. The city of New York is trying out 6 of the LED street lights in consideration for longer lasting - lower powered replacements.
The bulbs that are used currently are rated for about 24,000 hours, the new LED lamps are rated for between 50,000 and 70,000 hours and use up to 30% less energy.
Consequently - kids will have a harder time trying to bust it with a rock or bb gun.
