According to Engadget.com the PSP-3000 - which originally didn't appear to be very different from the current slim model - actually has a new and improved LCD. The upgraded LCD touts double the color gamut, 5x the contrast ratio, and double the response time of the current slim's LCD.That's just awesome, so I AM going to have to trade up at GameStop.
